Welcoming North Star Transition’s advisory Council

A glacial pond in the Usk Valley in Wales, UK, where North Star Transition operates the Wye-Usk Transition Lab.

It’s a time for reflection and looking ahead. Olivier Boutellis welcomes North Star Transition’s newly appointed Advisory Council as we reach the fourth anniversary of our first Transition Lab meeting.

The rapid expansion of North Star Transition’s work means that we are increasingly looking to focus our offering and develop our capabilities. So, we have been thinking about how we can allow North Star Transition to stay agile whilst also develop a powerful strategy for change and development.

To help us in our thinking, we have decided to set up North Star Transition’s Advisory Council. Our council comprises a wide range of differing perspectives from a variety of industries, professions and walks of life. Thus, the group integrates a diversity of expertise, generation, gender, culture and mindset that matches the collaborative methodology of North Star Transition, with the ultimate aim of providing us with strategic advice on the development of North Star Transition’s capabilities.

We are very excited to introduce them to North Star Transition’s work and to develop North Star Transition’s future together. Our vision for the Advisory Council is that it will:

  • reinforce our governance and provide strategic advice and feedback to the North Star Transition leadership and team;

  • contribute further innovative thinking in North Star Transition’s development and its work on systemic change; and

  • enhance our network, visibility and access to resources, projects and partners

To this end, North Star Transition’s Advisory Council held its first meeting in September 2024 and demonstrated an incredible commitment to systemic change and support to North Star Transition’s innovative approach.

The first meeting has already provided insightful strategic input at a time where North Star Transition is steadily expanding its work and witnessing a growing interest in its approach. The meeting underlined that it is high time that we all join forces and collaborate in transitioning our economies and lifestyles to regenerate our depleted natural resources and adapt to the realities of the planet’s physical boundaries. We hope that our Advisory Council can aid us in pointing the way on this difficult path.

Our meeting in September 2024 was just the start of our programme for the Advisory Council. Our aim for 2025 is to do a detailed review of North Star Transition’s projects to enable the Advisory Council to be fully up to date with our work. We also seek to develop North Star Transition’s strategy and purpose. Our final aim for 2025 is for the Advisory Council to aid in developing North Star Transitions network and also to consider how North Star Transition resources its innovative approach and scales up its offering to enable wide systemic change.

 North Star Transition is thrilled to benefit from the insights of this knowledgeable and thought-provoking group and is grateful for their time and support in helping to foster systemic change.
